There’s something about Easter in Ireland that feels just right; the days getting longer, the hedgerows greening up, a bit of sun finally warming your back (on a good day), and the first real excuse of the year to take a proper break. And if you’re thinking of getting out and about over the Easter Bank Holiday, there’s a grand mix of things to do, especially if you’re drawn to the countryside, a bit of heritage, and the odd scone or two.
Here’s how to make the most of it with some truly special experiences with Horse Country.
The Irish National Stud & Gardens

If there’s one place that captures the joy of spring, it’s The Irish National Stud. This year they’ve gone all in with their Easter festivities, think treasure hunts, family activities, fairy trails, and plenty of chocolate-fuelled fun. It’s the perfect blend of tradition and play.
But even beyond the Easter extras, there’s so much to see here: the Living Legends like Hurricane Fly, the Japanese Gardens in full bloom, and of course the stud farm itself, where foals wobble through the paddocks and the whole place hums with new life. It’s fresh, it’s vibrant, and it’s an ideal Easter day out whether you're five or ninety-five.

There’s no better way to embrace the season than with a visit to Kildangan Stud, where spring quite literally arrives on four legs. The Foal to Fame experience brings you into the heart of this world, from the paddocks to the barns, where you’ll see mares with their foals and learn about the making of a champion.
It’s a guided walk through both history and the future of Irish racing with stories of legendary horses who started their lives here, and the next generation just beginning theirs. Peaceful, powerful, and deeply moving in that way only nature can be.

Then it’s off to Coolmore, home to some of the world’s most celebrated stallions and the birthplace of champions.

Tipperary Museum of Hidden History & The Forge Experience

For something a little different (but no less rooted in place), drop into the Tipperary Museum of Hidden History. It’s a treasure trove of local tales; quirky, dramatic, and at times surprisingly moving. You’ll come out with a richer sense of the region and a few stories you didn’t expect.
And just nearby, the Forge Experience offers a glimpse into a craft that’s both ancient and alive - the blacksmith’s forge with Joe Channon, a thirdgeneration farrier (based in Clonmel). Watching sparks fly while hearing the clang of hammer on steel is oddly meditative, and gives a real respect for the trades that helped shape this part of Ireland.
